Basic overview:

  • Day 1 : Full-Day Tour
  • Day 2: “A day as a Mahout”: Learn about elephant behaviours, commands, and health checks.
  • Day 3: Day as a keeper
  • Day 4: Rest day + Trip to Doi Inthanon -> go to Traditional Karen Elephant Village
  • Day 5: Hiking with elephants, gibbon hike, sleep Huay Pakood
  • Day 6: Local medicine then back to EFV
  • Day 7: Day as a keeper

Day 1 : Full-Day Tour

  • 8:30am            Pick up from Hotel – stop at local market on the way

  • 10:30am          Arrive @ EFV

  • 10:45am          Intro. Presentation

  • 11:15am          Elephant Interaction – feeding at feeding barrier

  • 1:30pm            Lunch in the forest

  • 2:15pm            Elephant Interaction (take to the waterfall + trekking)

  • 3:30pm            Snacks at camp

  • 4:00pm            Rest time(/Nap time) OR Guests are welcome to explore the area

  • 5:30pm            Optional activities + exploring the village

  • 6:30pm            Dinner at a villager’s home

  • 9:00pm            Retire to Homestay

Day 2: “A day as a Mahout”:

  • 8:00am            Breakfast and coffee at homestay

  • 9:00am            Learning about elephant commands/language & how to connect with them

  • 10:00am          Get assigned an elephant and learn their personality + feed treats to bond + hiking as an elephant keeper

  • 12:00pm          Lunch in the forest

  • 1:00pm            Learn how to do an elephant health check

  • 2:00pm            Hiking as an elephant keeper + take elephants to the river

  • 3:00pm            Take elephants back to elephant house

  • 4:00pm            Bring elephant food to elephant house + feed the elephants

  • 6:00pm            Cooking and eating with elephant keepers + feed the elephants

  • 7:00pm            Feed the elephants

  • 10:00pm          Feed the elephants, then sleep

Day 3: Day as a keeper

  • 8:00am            Breakfast + coffee at elephant camp

  • 9:00am            Cleaning elephant sleep area + health check

  • 10:00am          Hiking with elephants as an elephant keeper

  • 12:00pm          Cooking lunch in the forest + let elephants go to forage

  • 1:30pm            Locate elephants and take them to the river + swimming/bathing

  • 4:00pm            Return to the camp + bring food to elephant house + feed elephants

  • 6:00pm            Barbecue at elephant keeper house + feed elephants

  • 10:00pm          Feed elephants again, then sleep

Day 4: Rest day + Trip to Doi Inthanon

  • 8:00am            Breakfast + coffee at elephant camp

  • 9:30am            Go to Doi Inthanon + hiking and see twin Pagodas

  • 12:30pm          Lunch at Doi Inthanon

  • 4:30pm            Arrive at Traditional Karen Elephant Village (Huay Pakood)

  • 6:00pm            Dinner at Homestay, then sleep

Day 5: Hiking with elephants

  • 8:00am            Breakfast + coffee at homestay

  • 9:00am            Hiking with elephants

  • 12:00pm          Lunch in the forest

  • 1:30pm            Finish hiking with elephants, go to see gibbons

  • 4:00pm            Back to homestay to shower and relax

  • 6:30pm            Dinner at hometstay, then sleep

Day 6: Local medicine

  • 8:00am            Breakfast + coffee at homestay

  • 9:00am            Hike to collect medicinal herbs, learn from village elders about foraging

  • 12:00pm          Lunch at homestay

  • 1:00pm            Head back to Elephant Freedom Village

  • 6:00pm            Dinner at camp, then sleep

Day 7: Day as a keeper

  • 8:00am            Breakfast + coffee at elephant camp
  • 9:00am            Cleaning elephant sleep area + health check
  • 10:00am          Hiking with elephants as an elephant keeper
  • 12:00pm          Cooking lunch in the forest + let elephants go to forage
  • 1:30pm            Locate elephants and take them to the river + swimming/bathing
  • 3:00pm            Return to the camp, prepare to leave EFV
  • 4:30pm            Go to Chiang Mai
